Origin/meaning
The arms were designed in 1900 by the State Archives, as no historical arms or seals were known.
The cloudy bordure is taken from the arms of the Princes of Fürstenberg, to whom the area historically belonged. The bear is the symbol of St. Gallus, the local patron saint.
