Origin/meaning

The arms show a canting wolf and a so-called wolf's hook.

The arms first appear on the local seal dating from around 1600. A second seal on the other hand shows only the hook and two stars. The arms were officially granted in 1927, based on the oldest seal. Silver, blue and red are the colours of the arms of the Counts of Hessen, who ruled the town since 1479.
