BOLSHESELSKY RAYON (Большесельский район)

Federal subject : Yaroslavl Oblast

Arms of/Герб Bolsheselsky Rayon

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on February 24, 2011.

A laurel wreath is a symbol of victory, and is taken from the coat of arms of Count Sheremetev, here it defines the geographical center of the Yaroslavl Oblast. The bear and ax are the arms of Yaroslavl Oblast.

The golden bend refers to the old road connecting Uglich and Yaroslavl, which went through the village. The horseshoe refers to the fact that the village was a post statio, where the first replacement of horses was carried out on the way to Yaroslavl.

The arms replaced older arms, adopted on March 26, 2009 by the district council.

Arms of/Герб Bolsheselsky Rayon

The arms showed a lot of the symbolism as in the later approved arms, but with an addition in chief for the Yukhot river and a different division of the field.

These arms were not approved by the Russian Heraldic Authority, which simplified the arms to the current design.
