Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on January 29, 2016.
These are the canting arms: "eržilas" (steed) and "vilkas" (wolf) form the name of the town.
Also the local legend about this name is reflected. Once the Teutonic knights captured the castle. Samogitians decided to retake it by ruse. They dressed a steed in wolfskin and released it to knights' horses. Scared by the wolf's smell, the horses ran away. And, while the knights were busy collecting horses back, the Samogitians recaptured the castle back. They renamed castle to Eržvilkas" to commemorate this fact.
