Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on September 6, 1989.
The rose is derived from the arms of Grand Duke Giedraitis, after which the town was named in the 14th century. The chief with a wooden trumpet and a sabre, are derived from a local monument, erected in honour of the battles for independence.
