French | D’or à la rose de gueules supportée, feuillée et armée de sinople, accostée de deux vergettes alésées et nouées d’azur ; chef d’azur à une bourse d’or accostée de deux étoiles d’argent. |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially adopted on November 20, 2019.
The azure, the two stars and the rose are taken from the arms of the Robinet de Cléry family, lord of Cléry-le-Grand and Cléry-le-Petit.
The purse refers to Saint Lawrence, who was treasurer of the church of Rome. Summoned to deliver the treasures, he brought together the poor, the infirm, the lame, the blind, stating “These are the treasures of the Church“. The church, former castral chapel, is dedicated to Saint Lawrence.
The arrow slits refer to the defensive elements of the fortified castle which, in the Andon valley, blocked the road from Trier to Reims and was destroyed during the 30 years war.
The two stars on an azure field represent those of the flag of the USA. They recall the sacrifice of American soldiers for the liberation of the village in 1918, in particular that of young Captain Harris for whom General Harry his father had erected a monument in Cléry-le-Grand.
