Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on June 19, 1942 and confirmed October 27, 1972.
The arms show in the upper part the lion of the Dukes of Jülich, the main rulers in the area for many centuries. The lower part symbolises the importance of the paper making in the area since the 16th century.
