The arms are identical to the arms of the Barons of Steenhuys, who acquired the estate in the early 18<sup>th</sup> century and who were the last Lords of Elverdinge. In the 16<sup>th</sup> century the Lord of Helverdynghe used rather different arms with in silver a red cross with in the chief an undefined black object.
