Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on July 24, 1979.
The eagle is the symbol for the imperial cities of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Dinkelsbühl and Feuchtwangen in the district. The chief combines the quartered arms of the Hohenzollern dynasty with the points of the arms of Franken, the area in which the district is situated.
The previous arms were granted on February 1, 1955.
The chief shows the arms of the Hohenzollern dynasty, Margraves of Nürnberg. The lower part is canting (Bach=brook) and also represents the Onoldsbach. The bar was also part of the arms of the Lords of Dornberg, who were an important family in the 12th and 13th century.
