Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on September 11, 1996.
The eagle is derived from the arms of the Dukes of Barrese, the Tower is remeniscent of the antique tower of Convicino; Convicino, or Convicinum as seen on the ribbon held by the eagle, was the original name of the town before it was changed to Barrafranca by the presumed Duke Barrese. The Crown above the shield is again a symbol ofvthe town's ownership under Noble jurisdictiction. The crossed Laurel and Olive branches symbolise peace, eternity (Olive) and Glory (laurel).
Previously the city used the arms shown below, which only showed the eagle of the Dukes of Barrese.
