The divided field shows the three crosses of the city of [[Breda (Noord-Brabant)|Breda]] and the pales of the former [[Diocese of Middelburg]], which bacame later also part of the Diocese of Breda. The cross is the symbol of Christianity and the design is based on the iron decoration-crosses on wooden gates, which strongly connected the different pieces of wood. It is thus meant as a symbol of strength.
