State:Rheinland-Pfalz
District (Kreis):Westerwaldkreis (until 1969 Unterwesterwaldkreis)
Verbandsgemeinde:Verbandsgemeinde Wirges

Wappen von Dernbach (Westerwald)/Arms (crest) of Dernbach (Westerwald)
Official blazon
German

Wappen viermal geteilt von Rot, Silber, Schwarz, Silber und Rot

Origin/meaning

The village was a loan of the Bishops of Trier, who appointed many landlords until 1746, when the bishops ruled the town directly. In 1802 the town was transferred to the Duchy of Nassau, which later became a province of Prussia. As the different landlords used their own seals and arms, there are no historical arms known for the town.

The present arms were granted in 1935 and are based on the arms of the founders of the local castle and one of the first landlords, the Lords of Dernbach. This family became extinct around the 15th century.

Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
