Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on April 18, 1911.
Fredeburg received city rights from the Counts of the Mark in the 14th century and became part of the State of Köln in 1444. The oldest seal dates from 1480 and already shows a gate and three towers. Later seals show the same composition. The arms were officially granted in 1911 by King Wilhelm II. The silver and black colours are derived from the colours of the State of Köln.
