ABBEVILLE
Département : Somme
Official blazon
D'azur à trois bandes d'or ; à la bordure de gueules; le tout sommé d’un chef d'azur semé de fleurs de lis d'or brochant sur la bordure.
Motto : "Fidelis"
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted by King Charles V on June 19, 1369.
The arms are those of the medieval Ponthieu region, of which the city was the capital. To distinguish the arms, the city used three golden bends in blue, whereas the region used three blue bends in gold. The Chief of France was added in 1369 for the loyalty of the city to the King.
The arms can be decorated with the following orders:
- Légion d’honneur (granted on June 6, 1947)
- Croix de guerre 1914-1918.
- Croix de guerre 1939-1945.
