Wappen von Schalkau

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

Schalkau was first mentioned in 1232. The city was ruled by Dukes of Sachsen-Meissen and the Counts of Schaumburg and received city rights in 1362. The oldest seal dates from the same time and showed already the same arms as above. The upper half shows the lion of the counts of Sachsen-Meissen, the lower two flowers in the colours of Schaumburg. The meaning of the flowers is not known.
