Origin/meaning

The town was founded as a German town and its original name is "Landeshut" meaning the country's guard (the Polish name means "stony hill"), which makes the arms canting; a knight defending the town. The image already appeared on the 14th century seal of the city. Later seals and images differ widely, as can be seen on the images below, but the composition remained the same.
