Wappen von Furth im Wald

The arms by Hupp in the Kaffee Hag albums +/- 1925

The arms are based on the oldest known seal of Furth im Wald, dating from the late 14th century. It showed a divided shield with in the upper half the diamonds of Bayern, and in the lower an empty field. Over the division line a wavy bar was shown. The wavy bar may be a canting symbol for the city (Furt=ford). Later the upper part was transformed into a chief and the bar became part of the lower part of the arms. In the 18th and 19th century the lower part was often decorated with flowers, trees or even landscapes. In 1924 these unheraldic devises were removed, but the shield division remained.
