Province : Lodi

Stemma di Codogno

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on November 13, 1930.

The inhabitants of Codogno (whose placename meant a quince tree wood) added at their ancient arms (a canting quince tree) a female wolf in 1492, to symbolize the alliance and the faithfulness to the city of Piacenza, with which they were confederated. The female wolf, following the tradition, was given to the Piacenza people, as arms by the Romans, like a sign of friendship, at the time when that city was declared a Roman Colony.
