County (Län): Västra Götalands län
Additions : 1974 Bjärke (partly, 1952 Erska, Lagmansered, Långared, Magra, Stora Mellby), Hemsjö (1952 Ödenäs)
Official blazon
I fält av silver en på grön mark framför en uppväxande grön ek gående röd hjort med horn, tunga och klövar av guld.
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted in 1953 and registered again in 1974.
Alingsås is a city since 1619 and the arms are based on the oldest seal, dating from the same time. The seal already shows the arms as they are still used. Both the tree and the deer symbolise the dense forests around the city. The colours were not known from the seals and were chosen in 1953 when the arms were officially described and granted.
