KANNUS

Region : Keski-Pohjanmaa
Former province : 1997-2009 Länsi-Suomi (until 1997 Vaasa)

Kannus Kuntavaakuna / Kommunvapen

Official blazon

Sinisessä kentässä paaluittainen noitarummun (kannuksen) vasara, sen varren kummallakin puolella kuusisakarainen kannustähti; kaikki hopeaa.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on September 27, 1950.

Kannus means spur, and the two spur wheels are thus a canting element. The main charge is a type of hammer, probably dating from the 12th century and found in the municipality.
