Origin/meaning

The arms show in the upper part the cross of the State of Köln. The area belonged to Köln from 1368 until the early 19th century. Prior to 1368 the area was ruled by the Counts of Arnsberg. The lower part shows the eagle derived from the Counts of Arnsberg. The wavy division line symbolises the Möhnesee-lake.
