Origin/meaning
Westhofen was already a fortified town in the early 14th century and received city rights in 1323 and 1401. The oldest seal of the city is known since 1434 and shows the Imperial eagle, as the city was a possession of the Emperors. The eagle remained the arms of the city and was formally granted on January 18, 1910.
