The arms were officially granted on January 18, 1910.

Westhofen was already a fortified town in the early 14<sup>th</sup> century and received city rights in 1323 and 1401. The oldest seal of the city is known since 1434 and shows the Imperial eagle, as the city was a possession of the Emperors. The eagle remained the arms of the city ever since.
