The two keys are the symbol of St. Peter, the patron saint of the former Principality and Abbey of [[Berchtesgaden]]. The principality was directly sudject to the Emperor, which is symbolised by the Imperial Orb. The lower part shows a salt bucket, as salt mining historically was the main source of income in the region.
