SILISTRA (Силистра)
Province: Silistra
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
Shield in the form of a fortress with five towers, which express the five elements of the coat of arms, which are emblematic of Silistra.
The first quarter is a symbol from the ancient Roman city of Durostorum, a canting altar (ara). The second quarter indicates that here was the center of the First Bulgarian Patriarchate. The pelican in the third quarter symbolises the Wildlife Sanctuary 'Srebarna' which is famous with the pelicans and the fourth quarter symbolises the art gallery in town. The inescutcheon indicates the importance of agriculture for the surroundings.
