The arms were officially granted on July 8, 1983.
 
The chief shows part of the local traditional costume, see also [[Schrecksbach]]. The small shield shows the traditional arms of painters and artists. The village has been an artist village and also promotes itself like that touristically.
 
The composition is taken from a historical postcard, see below. The same composition, not the arms, are also used as postal cancellations.
