As Captain of Leander at the Battle of the Nile (Lotus Flowers) in 1795 Vice Admiral Thomas Thompson (1767-1828) shows an Arm and Lance in his Arms. The Motto translates as "Who suffers conquers". Origin/meaning
Leander was in Greek Mythology Hero's lover. He drowned trying to swim the Hellespont.
