COUNTY TECKLENBURG

Arms (crest) of County Tecklenburg
Official blazon
German blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The County Tecklenburg was a small county located in the present-day German state of Nordrhein-Westfalen. It existed as an independent territory from 1189-1811 when it became part of the French Empire. Capital was the city of Tecklenburg.

The arms show three water lily leaves, used by the oldest Counts of Tecklenburg (ruled 1139-1247) and have been the symbol of the territory ever since.

From 1493-1541 the county was partinioned in Tecklenburg and Tecklenburg-Lingen. Since the 16th century the arms of the county therefore are often quartered or divided with an anchor for Lingen:

Coat of arms (crest) of County Tecklenburg

The arms of Tecklenburg-Lingen (quartered version)
