Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on October 23, 1911 and confirmed on April 13, 1970.

The arms are based on a local seal dating from the 15^th century. The meaning of the wolf is not clear. The colours were derived from the colours of Nassau, as the area historically belonged to the County Nassau-Siegen.

From 1887-1911 the town used arms with the local patron saint, St. Vitus rising from behind a city wall, standing in a 'landscape' resembling the local area.
