Origin/meaning

The village Schwarzach was named after the local abbey, founded in the 8th century and abolished in 1803. A local council was first mentioned in 1224. The seals of the council are known since 1596 and show the crossed sword and key; the symbols of St. Paul and St. Peter, the patron saints of the abbey. All later seals show the same composition, sometimes under a crowned shield. The colours were officially defined by the State Archives and approved by the local council in February 1900.

Wappen von Schwarzach (Rheinmünster)/Coat of arms (crest) of Schwarzach (Rheinmünster)

The seal of Schwarzach from 1723.
