BAD BUCHAU
State:Baden-Württemberg
District (Kreis):Biberach (until 1972 Saulgau)
Additions:1971 Kappel
German | In Silber eine bewurzelte grüne Buche, deren Stamm mit einem schwimmenden natürlichen Barsch überdeckt ist. |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The village developed around a convent in the 11th century and became a city at the end of the 13th century. In 1320 it became an imperial town.
The oldest seals of the town show a fish as well as a beech tree. The fish probably symbolises the fact that the town borders the Federsee. The beech is canting (beech=Buche). Around 1500 the fish was placed in front of the tree. The colours were officially described during the 19th century. At the same time a small shield was added with the colours of Württemberg, which was omitted during the early 20th century.
