ROBERT DERMOT O'FLANAGAN

Born:March 9, 1901 in Lahinch, County Clare, Ireland
Deceased:December 31, 1972

Bishop of Juneau, 1951-1968

Arms (crest) of Robert Dermot O'Flanagan
Official blazon
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

As common in US episcopal heraldry, the arms show the arms of the diocese impaled with the personal arms of the bishop.

A silver field with red chevron charged with two golden lions signify a (non related) O’Flanagan family of Drumdoe, Ireland, to which the bishop may be related.

The red pinecones are from the arms of St. Robert Bellarmine, the patron saint of the bishop.
