Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on January 24, 1693 by Prince Max II Emmanuel at the same time as the town-rights. The trees are a canting element (Wald=forest), the abbot is the abbot of the local cistercian monastery. The fleur-de-lis is the fleur-de-lis of the St. Mary.

In 1812 the King of Bavaria ordered the removal of the religious symbol and the arms accordingly showed only the fleur-de-lis. On March 22, 1855 King Maximilian II re-granted the old arms, which have not changed since, except that the colour of the field was changed from red to silver in 1928.
