Official blazon

  • (1963) Van azuur met drie akers van goud; het schild geplaatst vóór een H. Jacobus de Oudere in pelgrimsgewaad, de hoed versierd met een schelp, houdend een pelgrimsstaf in de rechterhand en een kapel in de linkerhand, alles van goud.
  • (1993) In lazuur drie akers van goud. Het schild geplaatst voor een Sint-Jacob de Meerdere als pelgrim, houdend een kapel op de linkerhand, alles van goud.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on July 29, 1963 and confirmed on October 13, 1993.

The arms are derived from the arms of Ekeren. Kapellen belonged to Ekeren until 1801. Behind the shield stands St. James, the patron saint of the town. He holds in his hand a small church, symbolising the Hoogenschoot chapel in the municipality.
