EDMOND HEELAN
Born: February 5, 1868 in Elton, Ireland
Deceased: September 20, 1948 in Sioux City
Auxiliary Bishop of Sioux City, 1918-1920; Titular Bishop of Gerasa
Bishop of Sioux City, 1920-1948
Auxiliary Bishop |
Bishop |
English | blazon wanted |
- (personal arms) Silver, a bend of lozenges cottised azure; on a chief azure a gold sun charged with a ring gules.
Origin/meaning
As common in US episcopal heraldry, the arms show the arms of the diocese impaled with the personal arms of the bishop.
The typical bend is taken from some English Heelan family arms and thus symbolises the last name of the bishop. The chief with the ring in the sun is taken from the (apocryphal) arms of St. Edmund of Pontigny, his name patron.
