SCHANDORF

State : Burgenland
District : Oberwart

Wappen von Schandorf/Arms (crest) of Schandorf

Official blazon

  • (de) In Gold ein roter Dreiberg von ineinandergeschobenen Hügeln, aus dem ein roter Baum wächst, belegt mit drei goldenen Ähren.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on July 14, 1998.

The tree of life and ears of grain are partly taken from the older village seals and symbolize agriculture, forestry and the hard work of the population. The three hills point to the prehistoric barrows in the Schandorf Forest and the rich, often difficult past of the place. There are no less as 232 grave hills or barrows in the municipality dating from the Iron Age.
