The arms were officially granted in 1979 (Bishop) and 2002 (Archbishop)

Bishop Conti's arms were based on those of the Conti family in Italy; the arms matriculated by Bishop Conti included the three salmon in fret used by other post-Reformation Roman Catholic Bishops of Aberdeen and by the R.C. Diocese of Aberdeen .
