Origin/meaning

The arms were were registered at the Bureau of Heraldry on October 3, 1992, and a registration certificate was issued on April 26, 1993.

The main division on the shield is derived from the typical Dutch Cape gables, which can be seen on many of the older houses in the valley.

The valley is named after the farm 'Constantia', which the Dutch East India Company (VOC) granted to governor Simon van der Stel in 1685. The eagle, hourglass and winged demi-stag were derived from the arms of Rijcklof Volckertsz. van Goens, head of the VOC the who authorised the grant of land.Literature: -
