Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on August 4, 1818 and confirmed with slightly different colours on February 16, 1847.

The arms show the local patron saint, St. Amelbergis, initially in the Dutch natural colours, which in 1847 were changed to natural colours. As the municipality only send a seal to the Dutch College of Arms in 1818 no colours were known, hence the arms were granted in the Dutch national colours.
