Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on July 8, 1988.

The arms are based on the previous arms and show the cross of St. Anthony for the St. Anthony Chapel in Hellenthal, built in 1520. The lower half shows the arms of the Counts of Salm-Reifferscheid, who played an important role in the history of the area.

The previous arms were not officially granted, but have been used since 1970.
