Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on March 20, 1838 and changed on May 9, 1989.

The arms are the arms of the former Lords of Schoten and Breda and are also used by the city of Breda in the Netherlands. In 1838 the arms were granted with a non-historical crown, which was corrected in 1989. The new crown is a crown of a baron, as the area was a barony in the 18th century.

The local council used a seal in the 17th and 18th century with an image of the patron saint, St. Cordula. This image was not taken into consideration when the arms were granted in 1838.
