Origin/meaning

Neumarkt was founded in the early 13th century and was mentioned as a city in 1235. It was an imperial city and thus all 13th century seals showed the Imperial Eagle. Ever since the city has used the eagle on its seals and as its coat of arms. The colours are known since the late 15th century and were identical to the colours of the Imperial eagle. In the 19th century, however, the colours were changed to the present colours, Hupp explains this by the use of red wax for the seal.
