LIEZEN
State: Steiermark
District: Liezen
Additions: 2015 Weißenbach bei Liezen
German | blazon wanted |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on September 4, 1947.
The Lindwurm (a sort of dragon) is a reference to folk-lore; apparently, the Lindwurm terrorized the lands of today's Liezen a long time ago. The beast's death, however, was not due to an unsung hero, but to the collapse of a mountain.
The five gates in the castle wall symbolize five important roads meeting at Liezen.
