Origin/meaning
The lower half of the arms and the crest represent the Sete Pedras, or seven stones, a series of small rocks just outside the village. According to a local legend a slave ship was wrecked on the rocks around 1540. The survivors swam to the coast and founded the village. The palm tree is the most common tree in the island.
