Origin/meaning

The arms were first granted in 1877 to Borgholm city, and on October 8, 1982 for Borgholm municpality.

The arms show in the upper half the local Borgholm Castle, as it looked in the 18th century. Presently only a ruin remains. The base indicates that the city was a harbour and the that the new municipality is surrounded on three sides by water.
