Origin/meaning
The arms were adopted on December 22, 1998.
The staff of Mercury symbolises the past of Berdychiv as one of the main trading centres. The axe symbolises the defence of the city against invaders. The stars symbolise the four cultures united in the city, Ukrainian, Russian, Polish and Jewish.
During the Russian Empire the city used the arms below.
