ELLENBERG
State : Baden-Württemberg
District (Kreis) : Ostalbkreis (until 1973 Aalen)
Official blazon
(de) In Gold ein aus dem Schildrand wachsender, nach links gewendeter schwarzer Elchkopf.
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted in 1924.
The arms show a canting moose (Elch), as the name was supposedly derived from Elchenberg. As no historical arms or seals were known the moose was chosen by the State Archives as a proper symbol, even though there have never been moose in the area.
