FREIGERICHT
State : Hessen
District (Kreis) : Main-Kinzig Kreis
Additions : 1970 Altenmittlau, Bernbach, Horbach, Neuses, Somborn
Official blazon
In Silber ein gradarmiges schwarzes Tatzenkreuz, kreuzweise belegt mit einem blauen Schlüssel und einem blauen Schwert.
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on October 6, 1971.
The black cross is the arms of the State of Fulda, as the area historically belonged to the diocese of Fulda. The key and swort are the symbols of the patron saint of the Somborn parish church, St. Peter and St. Paul. The sword is also a symbol of justice and hence for the name of the municipality (Gericht=court).
