Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on November 8, 1979.
The unicorn is taken from the historical arms of the Steigerwald region, in which the municipality is situated, The beech leaves also refer to the Steigerwald forest. The wavy base symbolises the Aurach river, after which the municipality is named. The fish is a symbol for the former importance of fishing for the area.
The colours silver and black are taken from the arms of the Marschalls of Ostheim, who acquired the Dankenfeld castle in 1663. Black and gold refer to the State of Bamberg and silver to the State of Würzburg, as the area historically belonged to both dioceses.
