EISENERZ
State : Steiermark
District : Leoben
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on August 31, 1948. Eisenerz (literally: iron ore) has been mining town for more than a 1000 years. So, a miner in traditional white attire forms the principal charge, holding the Austrian National arms ensigned with a miner's tools.
The chief mining site, the Erzberg (ore mountain), has been included into the arms. It has always been important enough to be dubbed the "eiserner Brotlaib" (iron bread). Surface mining has shaped the mountain into a sequence of huge steps.
